Our Miracle Baby
A Dramatic Birth Reveals the Nature of Soul
By BVH
I had been away from home, kayaking in southern British Columbia, when I got a nudge to check my phone messages at home. My wife and I were expecting our first child in a couple of months, so the message on the answering machine shocked me.
"I've gone into labor," said my wife's voice.
It was two months too early! I loaded up the car and drove all night to get to the hospital.
The doctors had done everything possible to stop her labor, but to no avail. The baby was soon in distress. My wife would have to have an emergency cesarean section if there was any hope of saving our child.
When the surgeon removed our baby, she was a lifeless lump of purple clay. The operating-room staff gazed helplessly at her. Fortunately, my wife was still under anesthesia, unable to witness this heartbreaking sight.
Suddenly, from a corner of the room, I saw a flash of bright golden light. It went directly into our baby's tiny body.
Immediately, she made a little noise and started to move.
The medical team sprang into action, rushing her away for emergency care. She weighed only two pounds.
After making sure my wife was OK, I managed to pull myself together and headed off to find our new little girl.
She was in an incubator, doing nicely. Over the next few months, she grew stronger under our constant care and special feeding. When she reached four pounds, we were able to take her home.
What had I seen that day? The teachings of Eckankar say that Soul enters the body just before or immediately after birth. I was given the privilege of witnessing that sacred moment when Soul enters Its physical home.
That experience transformed my world. Since that time, the miracle of my daughter's life has been a daily reminder of the holy and eternal nature of Soul.
